New Islamabad Jail Not Ready Yet: Interior

Uzma Khanum, sister of PTI founder former prime minister Imran Khan, confirmed on Tuesday that her brother is in good health during her recent visit to Adiala Jail. Her statement helps dispel widespread rumours circulating on social media regarding the PTI chief’s wellbeing.

Uzma was permitted to meet the incarcerated former premier earlier in the day. A large number of PTI supporters gathered outside Adiala Jail as she entered the facility to check on her brother’s condition.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, she said,
“Imran Khan’s health is perfectly fine. But he is extremely upset and says he is being mentally tortured.”

According to Uzma, Imran Khan remains confined to his cell for most of the day and receives only limited time outdoors. She also revealed that he has been kept completely isolated, with no communication allowed, and their meeting lasted about 30 minutes.

Protests Over Visitation Rights

The update comes as PTI workers held demonstrations outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and Adiala Jail, protesting restrictions placed on family and party leaders from meeting Imran Khan. PTI claims that no relatives or senior leaders have been allowed to meet him for several weeks.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi also stated that neither Imran Khan nor Bushra Bibi had been allowed any visitors since October 27.

Ahead of the expected protests, Section 144 was imposed in both Islamabad and Rawalpindi, banning public gatherings of more than four people.

Tallal Chaudhry Warns Against Violations of Section 144

Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry issued a strong warning, stressing that Section 144 would be enforced without discrimination across the twin cities.

“Whether they gather at the Islamabad High Court or Adiala Jail, the law will apply equally,” he said, urging PTI-backed lawmakers to respect the restrictions.

Chaudhry also linked the security measures to the threat of terrorism. He emphasized that extremists often use political gatherings, courts, and public offices as opportunities to create fear.

He added that terrorists commonly use VPNs and social media apps to hide their locations. The interior ministry, in coordination with the PTA, is working on regulating VPN registration to curb such misuse.

The minister also referred to a Peshawar High Court ruling that prohibits the use of state resources for political activities, cautioning KP’s chief minister against violating this directive. He warned that any misuse of government vehicles or officials would result in criminal cases.

Will Imran Khan Be Shifted to an Islamabad Jail?

When asked about the possibility of transferring Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to a new Islamabad prison, Tallal Chaudhry said it was too early to comment.
He explained that the new prison was still undergoing final construction and staff training.

Chaudhry also stated that if all required documents were submitted, visas for Imran Khan’s sons could be issued within 24 hours.

Strict Security Arrangements in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi police confirmed that 3,000 officers had been deployed to maintain order. Security checkpoints were set up on roads leading to Adiala Jail and the Red Zone.

Authorities reiterated that the three-day imposition of Section 144 restricts all rallies and protests, and violators will be dealt with strictly.

PTI leaders, including Asad Qaiser, announced plans to protest outside the Islamabad High Court and then march toward Adiala Jail, accusing authorities of refusing to implement court orders regarding visitation rights.

PTI Leaders and Family Members Previously Barred From Meetings

Over the past few weeks, multiple PTI leaders and Imran Khan’s sisters have staged sit-ins outside Adiala Jail after being repeatedly denied access to the PTI founder.

On November 19, PTI alleged that police harassed and forcefully detained Imran’s sisters and supporters when they attempted to meet him.

The government and PTI officials have both denied rumours of any serious health concerns regarding Imran Khan.
